UK Company Details Google Sheets™ plugin

Do you need to look up UK company details and all you have is the company name?

Fast Data Science has developed a Google Sheets™ add-on (plugin) called UK Company Details which finds UK company names in a string and puts company details from the Companies House dataset (the UK company registry) in the next columns.

To use the add-on, simply select the range of cells that contain the text you want to search, and then click on the add-on icon in the toolbar. The add-on will then scan the selected cells and put the Companies House IDs of any company names it finds in the next columns.

The add-on is very lightweight and easy to use, and it can be a great way to save time in your business when you need to identify company names in a large amount of text.

UK Company Details only finds UK companies. Companies in other jurisdictions are not supported.

Frequently asked questions about the UK Company Details plugin

1. How can I get UK company data for free either as a single company lookup, or as a downloadable dataset?

UK company data is available from Companies House at https://companieshouse.gov.uk as a data dump. The UK Company Details Google Sheets™ plugin will allow you to look up all fields in the Companies House data dump from within your spreadsheet for free. Here is the URL of the data dump: https://download.companieshouse.gov.uk/en_output.html . If you need to handle large numbers of companies at once, you will need to upgrade to the premium version of the plugin.

2. Is there a limit to how many companies your UK Company Details Google Sheets™ plugin can pull?

There is not a fixed limit in the UK Company Details Google Sheets™ plugin, but if you need to handle more than 50 companies in one go, you will need to upgrade to the premium version of the plugin.

If you need all UK companies then you can also download a single file from Companies House which has all data. Feel free to also talk to us about your requirements. If there is enough demand for this plugin then we can develop it further.

3. How can I look up the legal name of a company and other details?

For UK companies, you can use the UK Company Details plugin. For American companies, try the US Company Data plugin.

4. What data fields does the UK Company Details plugin pull out?

We currently retrieve the below fields from Companies House:

• Company Name – Registered legal name of the business
• Company Registration Number (CRN) – Official unique identification number assigned by Companies House
• Registered Office Address – Complete official address (Line 1, Line 2, Town/City, County, Country, Postcode)
• Company Type – Legal structure (e.g., Private Limited Company, PLC)
• Company Status – e.g., Active, Dissolved, Liquidation
• Country of Origin – Country where the company was originally registered
• Date of Incorporation – Official date the company was established
• Accounting Reference Dates – Financial year-end day and month
• Next Accounts Due Date – Deadline for submitting upcoming annual accounts
• Last Accounts Date – End date of the most recent accounting period filed
• Accounts Type – Filing classification (e.g., Micro-entity, Small, Full)
• Legacy Annual Return Dates – Historical return deadlines and filing dates
• Mortgage Charges & Securities – Summary of registered charges, including Total, Outstanding, Partially Satisfied, and Fully Satisfied charges
• SIC Code – Standard Industrial Classification code identifying primary business activity
• Limited Partnership Details – Count of General and Limited Partners (where applicable)
• API URI – Direct link to the official Companies House record
• Previous Company Names – Historical legal name changes
• Confirmation Statement Dates – Next due date and last filing date for the annual CS01 statement

The following two fields come from a different data source (GLEIF):

• LEI and ISIN - these identifiers can be used to cross reference with other systems such as GLEIF and convert to stock tickers

5. Can the UK Company Details plugin look up misspelled and ambiguous names?

If you enter an ambiguous name in the search column, the UK Company Details plugin will display a dropdown menu where you can select the correct company, and the remaining columns in the spreadsheet will be immediately populated.

6. Can the UK Company Details plugin look up company data from the Companies House Company Number?

You can enter a company number in the search column, and if a number is detected (8 digits or fewer if leading zeros have been trimmed by the spreadsheet), then the plugin will look up the data for those companies.

7. How can the UK Company Details plugin look up stock tickers?

The plugin doesn’t retrieve stock tickers directly, but you can use the LEI and ISIN to look up stock tickers yourself in other datasets.

8. How often is the data in the UK Company Details plugin updated?

Companies House provides a new dataset every month, so we update the data in the plugin monthly.
